Can I check in early?
Check-in time is 4:00 PM. We may be able to accommodate an earlier check-in depending on our schedule.
Can I check out late?
Check-out time is 10:00 AM. We may be able to accommodate a later check-out depending on our schedule.
Does Hill Croft cottage have parking?
Yes, there is off road parking for one car. If parking very carefully two cars can be parked off road but it is a squeeze and you would then need to put the bins out for collection.
There is on road parking available but please park carefully as it’s a one-way road and there needs to be sufficient access for the hourly double decker bus to pass by.
Can I charge my EV?
Yes, a 7KW/hr EV charger is available at Hill Croft. Simply plug in, scan the QR code or use the VoltShare app, enter the log in code provided, and pay only for the electricity you use.
Charge overnight and set off each morning ready to explore the Isle of Wight.

Is Hill Croft cottage suitable for children?
We welcome children of all ages. Hill Croft has a lovely secure garden for children to play in; however, very young children will need supervision due to a number of steps in garden.
There is a well in the garden which is protected by a mesh covering.
The staircase in the cottage is rather steep for very young children.
We have a travel cot, stair gate, and highchair available at the cottage. The main bedroom with the king size bed will accommodate the travel cot. Please note, we do not provide bedding for the travel cot. Please bring your own cot bedding and cot mattress
Are you dog friendly
We love dogs, and we welcome up to 3 during your stay, possibly more upon request. There is a lovely secure garden and two outside taps for muddy paws. We have dog bowls at the cottage and throws for the sofas.
Whilst our preference is for dogs not to go upstairs and on the bedding, if that is their norm, please bring your own throws to protect the bedding*
There are dog walks straight from the door or venture further afield for dog friendly beaches and other delightful walks.

Are there walks right from the doorstep?
Yes, there are a variety of walks from Hill Crofts doorstep, take a look at our blog South Isle of Wight walks: 7 remarkable routes from Niton to Ventnor
Routes include walks to:-
- St Catherines Lighthouse
- Watershoot Bay
- Rocken End
- Knowles Farm where Marconi set up his experimental radio system, from where he successfully transmitted wireless airwaves to the Lizard in Cornwall.
- The Niton Tunnels
- The Cripple Path
- St Catherines Pepperpot
- Cathehaven
- St Lawrence and Woody Bay.
The Isle of Wight Coastal path is accessible from Hill Croft.
Just a flavour of where you can walk to direct from Hill Croft Cottage, all of them involve a bit of uphill climbing and they vary in length.
We recommend you take a rucksack with a few supplies and some water with you.
There is an O/S Map at Hill Croft for your use during your stay.
How many bathrooms do you have?
The cottage has a well-maintained, practical family bathroom on the first floor with a bath and overhead shower, along with a separate WC on the ground floor for added convenience.
The ground floor WC has two doors as it used to be an outside toilet!
Are there shops nearby?
Yes, there is the fabulous Norris Family Grocer in Niton village, although small, it is extremely well stocked up with fresh and local produce, open from 7:30am to 9:00pm Monday to Saturday and 9:00am to 9:00pm Sundays.
Larger supermarkets are available in Newport, Lake, Ryde, Freshwater, Cowes and East Cowes.
Additionally, there is a pharmacy, a post office with it’s own bar and tearoom as well as a the local Tregear pottery.
Are there places to eat and drink nearby?
Yes — Hill Croft is within easy reach of some excellent local pubs and restaurants.
In Niton Undercliff, just a few minutes’ walk away, you’ll find the much-loved Buddle Smugglers Inn. A pleasant 15-minute walk into the main village brings you to The White Lion. Pizza is also available at No7 at the back of the Post Office in the main village, it also has a bar. Reservations recommended.
From late May to September, outdoor dining is also available at True Food Kitchen at Castlehaven — around a 10–15-minute downhill walk from Hill Croft (the walk back up is a little more energetic!).
Just a 15-minute drive away, Ventnor offers a wider choice of eateries, including the popular Spyglass Inn, The Smoking Lobster and True Food Kitchen.
Whether you’re after a casual pint, fresh seafood, or sunset dining by the water, you’re wonderfully well placed at Hill Croft.
How far from the beach are you?

The local beach at Castlehaven is just 0.6 miles away downhill on foot or 0.9 miles away by car. Due to the nature of the track and the limited parking available at Castlehaven, it is best to walk. The track takes you to Castlehaven Village Green and Niton Harbour.
Reeth Bay beach is only accessible from Niton Harbour either side of and at low tide, traversing across pebbles and boulders, for the sure footed and great for rock pooling.
There is a little wooden changing room at Niton harbour, So feel free to put on your swimmers and take a dip in the sea off the slipway. Many people do.
We recommend you may want to wear beach/water shoes if taking a dip off the slipway and/or trainers if traversing the pebbles/bolders to reach the beach.
The slipway is also ideal for launching your stand up paddle board or kayak.
Just be aware of the tides, we recommend you download a tide app. Be aware to is a steep walk back up!
Castlehaven is a hidden little gem and a favourite walk with guests. From May to end of September the True Food Kitchen Castlehaven is open for outdoor dining.
For more easily accessible beaches, these are just a short drive away from Hill Croft Cottage. family friendly Ventnor beach is just a 15 minute drive away and Shanklin a 25 minute drive.
Dog friendly beaches are located a short drive away at Chilton Chine (15 minutes) Brook Chine (16 minutes) Yaverland (30 minutes), Duver (40 minutes), these being just a few of the dog friendly beaches in the Isle of Wight.
Do you have bed linen, towels, hair dryers, toiletries and essentials?
We provide bed linen, bathing towels and hand towels. We do not provide beach towels, please bring your own for trips to the beach. (Please note, we don’t provide bedding for the travel cot, please bring your own).
There are two hairdryers at the cottage for your use during your stay.
We provide handwash and an initial supply of toiler rolls and basic essentials (e.g. dish washers tablets, washing up liquid, tea, ground coffee, small milk), to help you settle in comfortably. For longer stays or larger groups, you may wish to bring or purchase additional supplies during your stay.
Do you have a BBQ?
Yes, it’s an electric BBQ! Great for easy cleaning. There are also BBQ utensils, available for your use.
Please switch the BBQ off and clean after use, thank you. There is also a protective cover.
The BBQ will be located either in the lean too shed off the kitchen, or on the rear patio area. There is an outdoor socket on wall in the rear courtyard to plug the BBQ in to. It takes approx. 15 minutes for the BBQ to warm up ready for cooking.
There’s nothing quite like outdoor eating in the warmer months.
Is there somewhere to store my bicycle and or SUP?
Yes, you can store any bicycles, SUP’s and other small equipment you may bring in the lean too shed at the rear of the kitchen.
